The Non-Woven Star of David

This page is being used to collect information about the history of the paperfolding design I call The Non-Woven Star of David. Please contact me if you know any of this information is incorrect or if you have any other information that should be added. Thank you.

This page records all versions of this design irrespective of the way in which the flaps are squashed to create the points.

This page also records instances where these stars are nested to produce modular designs.

1892

As far as I know a version of this design first appears in 'Le Travail Manuel a L'ecole Primaire' by Jully & Rocheron, which was published by Librairie Classique Eugene Belin in Paris in 1892 contains a similar design, also folded from an equilateral triangle, in which the internal flaps are not interwoven but squashed for decorative effect.

Similar designs appear:

1895

As far as I know Basic Version 1 first appears in 'Geometrie, Dessin et Travaux Manuels - Cours Moyen', produced under the direction of M E. Cazes, which was published by Librairie Ch. Delagrave in Paris in 1895. The text says that if several are folded from different sizes of paper, 'By introducing them one into the other we obtain a multi-coloured star with the most beautiful effect'.This multi-piece version is, of course, a modular design.
