The Woven Star of David | |||||||
This page is being used to collect information about the history of the design I call the Woven Star of David made by folding paper. Please contact me if you know any of this information is incorrect or if you have any other information that should be added. Thank you. This design is generally folded from an equilateral triangle, though it may also be folded from a rectangle which is first folded into an equilateral triangle. ********** In Japan (and in books by Japanese authors) 1959 A photograph of this design appears in 'Origami: Japanese Paper Folding - Sakura Book' by Isao Honda, which was published in English by The Asahi Origami Club in 1959, where it is used as a decorative embellishment to triangular faces of the Hexagonal Tematebako. ********** 1960 As 'A Triangular Ornament' in 'All About Origami' by Isao Honda, which was published by Toto Bunka Company, Limited in Tokyo in 1960.
********** In Europe and the Americas 1882 As far as I know this design first appears in the historical record folded from an equilateral triangle, in part two of 'The Kindergarten Guide' by Maria Kraus Boelte and John Kraus, which was probably first published by E. Steiger and Company in New York in 1882. ********** 1910 Three different methods of folding Stars of David from a triangle appear in 'Die Frobelschen Beschaftigungen' by Marie Muller-Wunderlich, which was published by Friedrich Brandstetter in Leipzig in 1910. No 1 is the Woven Star of David. ********** The same design appears: 1913 In 'Trabajo Manual' by C Champy Alvear, which was published by Cabaut y Cia in Buenos Aires in 1913. ********** 1939 As 'Roseta' in 'Trabajo Manual Educativo' by Araminta V Aramburu, which was published by F Crespillo in Buenos Aires in 1939. ********** 1940 As 'Roseta de Seis Puntas' in 'El Plegado y Cartonaje en la Escuela Primaria' by Antonio M Luchia and Corina Luciani de Luchia, which was published by Editorial Kapelusz in Buenos Aires in 1940. ********** 1951 As 'Roseta simple cerrada' in Plegado laminas published by Della Penna, April 1951. ********** |
