The Two-Ring Cube | |||||||
This
page is being used to collect information about the
history of the modular paperfolding design I call The
Two-Ring Cube (because it is made by combining two
square-shaped rings of paper).. Please contact me if you
know any of this information is incorrect or if you have
any other information that should be added. Thank you. ********** 1889 As far as I know this design first appears in 'Jeux et Travaux Enfantins - Première partie: Le Monde en Papier' by Marie Koenig and Albert Durand, which was published by Librairie Classique A. Jeande in Paris in 1889. The work also shows how to use the same modular technique to create cuboids of other proportions. ********** The same design appears: 1890 As '3eme construction de cube' in 'Exercises Methodiques de Travaux Manuels' by Jean Boogaerts, which was published in Belgium and France in 1890. This work also shows how Two-Ring Cubes can be threaded onto paper strips to produce chains. ********** 1894 In an article by J Marteau in Manuel General de L'Instruction Primaire of 1st December 1894. ************ 1897 As 'Dé à jouer' in 'Pliage et Decoupage du Papier' by C Savineau, which was published by Librairie Hatchette et Cie in Paris in 1897. ********** 1900 In an article in El Monitor 331 of 30th September 1900. ********** 1900 In 'Construction Work in Cardboard and Paper' by Robert M Smith, which was published by A Flanagan Co in Chicago in 1900. This work contains the same material relating to this design that had previously appeared in Boogaerts (see entry for 1890). ********** 1940 Under the title 'Construccion del Cubo (1' )in 'El Plegado y Cartonaje en la Escuela Primaria by Antonio M Luchia and Corina Luciani de Luchia, which was published by Editorial Kapelusz in Buenos Aires in 1940 As 'Cubo' in Plegado laminas published by Della Penna, April 1951. ********* |
