This page is being used to collecxt information about the history of the paperfolding design I call The Hexagonal Rosette. This design sometimes appears as a design in its own right and sometimes as a base for other designs. There are separate pages for The Hexagonal Rosette Star and The Six-Armed Rotor which are derivatives of this design. ********** In Japan (and in books by Japanese authors) 1895 The Hexagonal Rosette appears as an intermediate fold in instructions for folding an 'Asa no Ha' (The Hemp Leaf) which appear in issue 1895 / 12 of the Japanese children's magazine 'Shokokumin'.
********** 1944 The Hexagonal Rosette appears in 'Origami Shuko' by Isao Honda, which was published in 1944. A second decorative variation also appears in these diagrams
********** 1960 A design for a 'A Hexangular Incense Case', folded from a hexagon, appears in 'All About Origami' by Isao Honda, which was published by Toto Bunka Company, Limited in Tokyo in 1960. ********** 1967 As 'Hexagonal Ornament 1' in 'Origami Folding Fun: Kangaroo Book' by Isao Honda, which was published by Japan Publications Inc in Tokyo in 1967. ********** In Europe and the Americas 1890 This design appears in 'Exercises Methodiques de Travaux Manuels' by Jean Boogaerts, which was published in Belgium and France in 1890. Two decorative variants also appear in the same work.
*********** The same design appears: 1894 In an article by J Marteau in Manuel General de L'Instruction Primaire of 3rd November 1894. ********** 1897 As 'Rosace étoilée' in 'Pliage et Decoupage du Papier' by C Savineau, which was published by Librairie Hatchette et Cie in Paris in 1897. ********** 1900 In an article in El Monitor 331 of 30th September 1900 (which is a translation of several chapters of Savineau). ********** 1913 In 'Trabajo Manual' by C Champy Alvear, which was published by Cabaut y Cia in Buenos Aires in 1913. ********** 1960 As 'Rosette Box' in 'Paper Folding Fun' by Robert Harbin, which was published by Oldbourne in London in 1960. ********** |
