Thank you. ********** In Japan (and in publications by Japanese authors) 1951 This slit and fold basket appears' in 'Origami to Kirinuki' by Saburo Ueda, which was published by Kokkado in Tokyo, most probably in 1951. ********** In Europe and the Americas 1892 'The Prang Primary Course in Art Education: Part 1: The First Primary Year' by Mary Dana Hicks and Josephine C Locke, which was published by the Prang Educational Company in Boston in 1892, contains several designs of this type. Cubic Box (Cut) *** Oblong Box / Market Basket (Cut) *** Card Tray (Cut) ********** 1910 A 'Haus' made by this technique appears in Part 2 'Das Flechten' of 'Die Frobelschen Beschaftigungen' by Marie Muller-Wunderlich, which was published by Friedrich Brandstetter in Leipzig in 1910. ********** An 'Einfacher Kasten' (Simple Box), made by this technique, which can be turned into a basket, appears in 'Allerlei Papierarbeiten' by Hildergard Gierke and Alice Kuczynski, which was published by Drud und Verlag B G Teubner in Leipzig and Berlin in 1910. ********** 1913 'Trabajo Manual' by C Champy Alvear, which was published by Cabaut y Cia in Buenos Aires in 1913, contains several designs made using this technique. This design is derived from The Catherine of Cleves Box. *** p14. Alternative lid *** p71. Caja japonesa The instructions show how to construct a lid for the box in a similar way and how to twist the two together. Square-shaped patterns can be used to decorate the box.

********** 1940 'El Plegado y Cartonaje en la Escuela Primaria' by Antonio M Luchia and Corina Luciani de Luchia, which was published by Editorial Kapelusz in Buenos Aires in 1940 contains a number of single-sheet geometric designs of this type: Repisa Rinconera (Corner Shelf) - Made from a blintzed square with the aid of a cut.
