The Prang Primary Course in Art Education: Part 1: The First Primary Year by Mary Dana Hicks and Josephine C Locke, 1892

'The Prang Primary Course in Art Education: Part 1: The First Primary Year' by Mary Dana Hicks and Josephine C Locke was published by the Prang Educational Company in Boston in 1892. It sets out a 16 week syllabus for the teaching of art inthe first year of primary school according to Froebelian educational principles.

There are two syllabuses. One of 36 weeks and one of 16 weeks. Many of the weeks include some element of paperfolding (see below). There is an appendix providing diagrams for 36 simple paperfolding designs (see Analysis below) and some general advice as to how paperfolding should be taught. The 36 week syllabus is more detailed and uses paperfolding to create impressions of the faces of solids as well as create designs. The 16 week syllabus only uses paperfolding to create designs and only mentions designs 1 through 23.

A full copy of the work can be accessed here.
