The Paperfolding of Gaston Tissandier
 

Introduction

Gaston Tissandier was a French scientist, meteorologist, aeronaut, editor and writer. He was born on November 21, 1843 and died on August 30, 1899. He both founded and edited the scientific magazine 'La Nature'. His articles and books contain some paperfolding material, much of which is related to the demonstration of scientific principles.

Publication of an article in La Nature Issue 366 of June 5th, 1880 explaining how to melt tin in a folded playing card.

Publication of an article in La Nature Issue 370 of July 3rd, 1880 explaining how to boil water in a paper pan.

Publication of 'Les Recreations Scientifiques', which contained both the above effects.

Publication of an article in La Nature Issue 399 of 22nd January 1881 explaining the Spiral Snake.

Publication of 'Popular Scientific Recreations', an English translation of 'Les Recreations Scientifiques'.

Publication of 'Recreaciones Cientificas', a Spanish translation of 'Les Recreations Scientifiques'.

Publication of the 3rd Edition of Les Récréations Scientifiques which contains some paperfolding related material not included in the previous editions.

Publication of an article in La Nature Issue 605 of January 3rd, 1885 which explains how to produce coal gas using a Paper Cone.

Publication of the 5th Edition of Les Récréations Scientifiques, which contains some paperfolding related material not included in the previous editions. The Avertissement states that 'our book has been translated into English, German, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, Danish and Russian.'

Publication of 'Half Hours of Scientific Amusement' translated into English by Henry Frith, which contained selected material from 1888 5th edition of 'Les récréations scientifiques'.
