This article by Gaston Tissandier headed 'La physique sans appareils' written describes how to boil water in a paper box without burning the paper. The box is described as 'une petite boite rectangulaire, comme les ecoliers savent en confectionner' or, in English, 'a small rectangular box, which schoolchildren know how to make'. The drawing shows that this paper box is the design known as the Junk Box.
