This
page is being used to collect information about the
history of the paperfolding design I call The Diagonal
Cross. Please contact me if you know any of this
information is incorrect or if you have any other
information that should be added. Thank you. The Diagonal Cross is a flat decoration developed from the Windmill Base. ********** 1873 As far as I know this design first appears in 'Exercices et Travaux pour les Enfants Selon la Méthode et les Procédés de Pestalozzi et de Froebel' by Fanny and Charles Delon, which was published by Librairie Hachette in Paris in 1873.
********** The Diagonal Cross also appears: 1894 As 'Rosace a quatre branches' in an article by J Marteau in 'Manuel General de L'Instruction Primaire' of 10th February 1894. Fig 4 shows a second square being folded around the first to effect a colour change.
*********** 1897 As 'Croix en relief' in 'Pliage et Decoupage du Papier' by C Savineau, which was published by Librairie Hatchette et Cie in Paris in 1897. The work also describes how to fold a background from a separate square which can be added to this design to effect a colour change. ********** 1899 As the 'Cruz en relieve' (The Diagonal Cross) is discussed in an article in El Monitor 316 of 31st July 1899. ********** 1913 Among several decorations developed from the Windmill Base to appear in 'Trabajo Manual' by C Champy Alvear, which was published by Cabaut y Cia in Buenos Aires in 1913. ********** 1951 Among several decorations developed from the Windmill Base to appear in 'Occupons nos doigts' by Raymond Richard which was published by Les Editions du Cep Beaujolais in Villefranche-sur-Rhone in 1951. ********** |
