A design for a standing crane made from the irregular slit octagon base appears in the 'Kan No Mado', which is usually dated to 1845.

The Cut Heron - 1905 onwards

A design for 'La Grulla' (the crane) developed from a bird base appears in the second edition of 'Papiro-Zoo: Manual Practico de Papirologia o Cocotologia' by Giordano Lareo, which was published by Libraria 'El Ateneo' Editorial in Buenos Aires in 1944.

1951

A design for a standing cut 'Heron' appears in 'Origami to Kirinuki' by Saburo Ueda, which was published by Kokkado in Tokyo, most probably in 1951. Cuts have been used to create the crest and separate the legs.

1960

A design for 'A Standing Heron' appears in 'All About Origami' by Isao Honda, which was published by Toto Bunka Company, Limited in Tokyo in 1960. The crest is created using a cut.
