1927

As far as I know this design first appears as 'Schmetterling' in 'Lustiges Papierfaltbüchlein' by Johanna Huber, which was published by Otto Maier in Ravensburg, Germany, probably in 1927. The author does not appear to have known that this design can be made to flap.

The design also appears:

As 'un Mariposa', in Booklet 1 of 'Figuras de Papel', a series of 3 booklets published by B Bauza in Barcelona in 1932. I do not know if the flapping action is mentioned in this booklet.
