The Mailing Envelope - 1888 onwards

A design for a 'box' (which we would now call a mailing envelope) appears in the 'Teacher's Manual for Prang's Shorter Course in Form Study and Drawing', by John S Clark, Mary Dana Hicks and Walter S Perry, which was published by The Prang Educational Company in Boston, New York and Chicago in 1888.

This design also appears in:

'Part 1 for Prang's Complete Course in Form Study and Drawing Books I and II' by John S Clark, Mary Dana Hicks and Walter S Perry, which was published by the The Prang Educational Company in Boston, New York and Chicago in 1890

'Teacher's Manual for the Prang Course in Drawing for Graded Schools, Books 1-6', by John S Clark, Mary Dana Hicks, Walter S Perry, which was published by the Prang Educational Company in Boston, New York and Chicago in 1897, also contains a way of constructing a basket from two irregular tempates. The text also refers to a 'box with a separate cover' made in a similar way.

A multiple piece tab and slit design for a Lampshade (6 pieces) and Pot Cover (4 pieces) appears in 'Trabajo Manual' by C Champy Alvear, which was published by Cabaut y Cia in Buenos Aires in 1913.

A 'Paper Box' folded from an irregular template and held together by tabs and pockets appears' in 'Fun with Paper' by Joseph Leeming, which was published by Spencer Press Inc in Chicago in 1939.
