Thank you. ********** 1743 A method of making a paper filter appears in 'Select Transactions of the Honourable The Society of Improvers', which was published in Edinburgh in 1743. ********** 1855 'The Practical Housewife' by Robert Kemp Philp, published by Ward and Lock in London in 1855 contains instructions for folding a paper filter. ********** 1882 'Die Schulwerkstatt' by E Barth and W Niederly, which was published in Bielefeld and Leipzig in 1882, contains diagrams for folding a paper filter. ********** 1892 'Le Travail Manuel a L'ecole Primaire' by Jully & Rocheron, which was published by Librairie Classique Eugene Belin in Paris in 1892 contains instructions for making a simple filter. ********** 1893 A design for a 'Filtre' appears in an article by J Marteau in Manuel General de L'Instruction Primaire of 23rd December 1893. ********** 1895 A similar, though improved, filter appears in 'L'enseignement manuel dans les ecoles du degre primaire (garcons)' by Rene Leblanc, which was published by Librairie Larousse in Paris in 1895.
********** A design for a folded paper filter appears in 'Pliage et Decoupage du Papier' by C Savineau, which was published by Librairie Hatchette et Cie in Paris in 1897. ********** 1899 An article in El Monitor 314 of 31st May 1899 contains a simple design for a paper filter. The accompanying text says, roughly: 'The folds, alternately inward and outward, allow you to fold a square in the shape of a funnel or filter for syrups and liqueurs.' ********** 1903 'La Ensenanza del Trabajo Manuel' by Pedro de Alcántara García and Teodosio Leal y Quiroga, which was published in Madrid in 1903, contains instructions for folding a paper filter suitable for use in a laboratory. ********** 1909 'Petit Manuel de Travaux d'Amateurs' by H de Graffigny, which was published by Collection A L Guyot in Paris in 1909 contains instructions for making two different kinds of filters.
