Four Rhombi

1914

Diagrams for the design, titled 'Four Rhombi', appear in 'Zhe zhi tu shuo' (Illustrated Paperfolding), compiled by Gui Shaolie, which was published by the Commercial Press in Shanghai in Ming guo 3 (1914).

In Japan (and in books by Japanese authors)

1904

A drawing of the design appears in 'Shukouka Kyoju Shishin: Maiji Haitou' by Hyojiro Nakagaki, which was published by Kenseikai in Tokyo in 1904.

1905

The design also appears in 'Shukoka Kyoju Saian' by Gentaro Tanahashi and Hideyoshi Okayama, which was published by Hobunkan in Tokyo in 1905.

In Europe and the Americas

1874

As far as I know this design first appears in the third edition of 'Der Kindergarten' by Hermann Goldammer, which was published by Carl Babel in Berlin in 1874

1897

Four Rhombi appears as 'Losanges en rosace' in 'Pliage et Decoupage du Papier' by C Savineau, which was published by Librairie Hatchette et Cie in Paris in 1897. The work also describes how to fold a background from a separate square which can be added to this design to effect a colour change.

1899

Four Rhombi appears as 'Rombos formando estrella' in an article in El Monitor 321 of 31st December 1899. The text says that this design can be inserted into the centre of a windmill base folded from a larger (twice the area) square to make a modular decoration.

This design appears in 'Trabajo Manual' by C Champy Alvear, which was published by Cabaut y Cia in Buenos Aires in 1913.
