This
page is being used to collect information about the
history of the two-part modular paperfolding design known
as Eight Squares. Please contact me if you know any of
this information is incorrect or if you have any other
information that should be added. Thank you. In modern times this design was re-invented by Wayne Brown and is commonly known as 'Wayne Brown's Star'. ********** 1894 As far as I know this design first appears in an article by J Marteau in Manuel General de L'Instruction Primaire of July 1894 under the title 'Octagone etoile'. ********** The design also appears: 1897 As 'Huit carres en rosace' (Eight squares in a rosette) in 'Pliage et Decoupage du Papier' by C Savineau, which was published by Librairie Hatchette et Cie in Paris in 1897. *** The same work also contains a derivative design, 'Rosace à 8 pointes' in which the squares are reduced to triangles and which we can therefore call Eight Triangles.
********** 1900 In an article in El Monitor 331 of 30th September 1900 (which is a translation of several chapters of Savineau).
********** 1913 In 'Trabajo Manual' by C Champy Alvear, which was published by Cabaut y Cia in Buenos Aires in 1913.
