| This
page is being used to collect information about the
history of the paperfolding design I call The Two-Part
Star of David, which is a modular design folded from two
equilateral triangles. The module sometimes appears as a
decoration in its own right. Please contact me if you
know any of this information is incorrect or if you have
any other information that should be added. Thank you. In modern times this design is sometimes attributed to Lewis Simon. This page includes details of publications of the module as a decoration in its own right as well as of the two-part modular design. ********** 1894 As far as I know this design first appears as 'Etoile a six pointes' in an article by J Marteau in Manuel General de L'Instruction Primaire, 22nd September 1894.
********** 1895 The module appears as a decoration in its own right as an 'Etoile a 3 pointes' in 'La Deuxieme Annee de Travail Manuel (Cours Superieur)' by P Martin, which was published by Armand Colin et ces Editeurs in Paris in 1895.
********** This design also appears: 1897 As 'Plaque de revêtement Triangle équilatéral (suite)' - the module as a decoration
and 'Etoile à dévider' - the complete two-part design - in 'Pliage et Decoupage du Papier'by C Savineau, which was published by Librairie Hatchette et Cie in Paris in 1897.
********** 1900 In an article in El Monitor 331 of 30th September 1900.
********** 1924 In 'Joujoux En Papier' by Tom Tit, which was published in Paris by Paul Lechevalier in 1924, contained diagrams for 'L'Etoile A Devider', a Modular Star of David folded from two equilateral triangles. The final illustration shows that it can be used as a spool or thread holder.
