'Cours Normal de Travail Manuel' by P Martin was published by Armand Collin et ces Editeurs in Paris in 1888. The Preface states that it is 'a course in the form of notes, distributed to the students ... that we have compiled and are publishing today.' The majority of the content of the course is about working with wood and metal but there are also brief sections on the use of other materials / techniques such as Tressage and Cartonnage. Note that the section on Tressage makes mention of using straw, rush, split willow etc but not paper.

A revised third edition, which contained more paperfolding material, was published in 1894. I do not know when the second edition was published or whether or not it was identical to the first.
