Shukouka no Liron Oyobi Jissai by Kuniho Nakamura and Shinpei Ito, 1903 | |||||||
'Shukouka no Liron Oyobi Jissai' (Handicraft Theory and Practice) by Kuniho Nakamura and Shinpei Ito was published by Kofukan in Tokyo in 1903. A full copy of the work can be accessed online here. The drawings of the finished designs and the crease patterns given in this work are not always straightforward to interpret. I have only attempted to identify and analyse the Forms of Life. ********** Analysis The Japanese House ********** Hat - The Monk's Hat (Derived from the Japanese House) ********** Boat - The Warship (The crease pattern is that of the third groundform, which suggests that the drawing is supposed to be a representation of the Warship rather than the Paper Boat. In addition the characters to the right below the drawing read 'warship'.) ********** Wrapper for Money? The characters say 'money into'. (It is not clear to me how the crease pattern relates to the drawing of the finished design.) ********** Crane (It is not clear to me how the crease pattern relates to the drawing of the finished design.) ********** Lantern - The Long Lantern ********** The Trousers ********** Helmet - The Kabuto The characteron the right says 'helmet'. The crease pattern suggests this is the Kabuto. No drawing of the finished design is given.
********** Fukusuke - Simple Fukusuke ********** Selected Pages (Pages are ordered top to bottom and left to right) Chapter 6: Cut Work
********** Chapter 8: Origami
********** Chapter 9: Thick Paper Craftsmanship
********** Sewing
