This
page attempts to record what is known about the origin
and history of the origami design I call The Simple
Whale. Please contact me if you know any of this
information is incorrect or if you have any other
information that should be added. Thank you. ********** 1964 As far as I know this design first appears in 'Secrets of Origami', by Robert Harbin, which was published by Oldbourne Book Company in London in 1964, where it is said to be Japanese. ********** 1968 The same design appears in 'Your Book of Paperfolding' by Vanessa and Eric de Maré, which was published by Faber and Faber in London in 1968, where it is said to be traditional Japanese. ********** 1967 A version with a cut tail appears as 'Koinobori' in 'Origami Festival' by Isao Honda, which was published by Japan Publications Inc in Tokyo in 1967. ********** |
