This design first occurs in the books of Isao Honda and is probably his original design.

In Japan (and in publications by Japanese authors)

1931

As far as I know the 'Nagakabuto' first appears in 'Origami (Part 1)' by Isao Honda, which was published in Japan in 1931.

1944

Two versions of the design appear in 'Origami Shuko' by Isao Honda, which was published in 1944.

In Europe and the Americas

1960

As 'Party Hat' in an article by Robert Harbin published in 'The Observer' of 7th February 1960.

1963

The same design appears as 'The Party Hat' in 'Party Lines' by Robert Harbin, which was published by the Olbourne Book Co in London in 1963.

1964

The 'Party Hat' also appears in 'Secrets of Origami', by Robert Harbin, which was published by Oldbourne Book Company in London in 1964.
