1912

As far as I know the earlliest publication of this design was in the 16th March 1912 issue of The Eastern Recorder (which was published in Kellerberrin, West Australia). It is possible that this article was borrowed / syndicated from another, better-known paper, but, if so, I have not been able to discover which it was.

1949

Hugard's Magic Monthly for February 1949 contained an article about money folding by Martin Gardner explaining this design under the name The Mazuma Fish (Mazuma is US slang for money.)
