Mes Jolis Jeux by Henriette Suzanne Bres, c1900 | |||||||
'Mes
Jolis Jeux' by Henriette Suzanne Bres was published by
Librairie Hachette in Paris. I have not seen a copy of
the first edition and this page is based on a copy of a
later edition, which is undated but most probably from
1928, which can be accessed online here. The c1900 date for the
first edition comes from the site of the Musée National de
l'Éducation
but I cannot otherwise evidence it. I believe that the contents of this later edition are essentially similar to those of the first edition. However, there is one clear anomaly. A note against the design called the Voiturette gives the source of the design as 'Distractions Enfantines' by Mlle Koenig, which was not published until 1910. However, that same work had previously been published as 'Travaux Recreatifs Pour les Enfants de 4 a 10 Ans' in 1898, and Michel Grand has suggested that the anomaly can be resolved if we assume that the title of the book was updated when the later edition was prepared. 'Mes Jolis Jeux' is a book of activities for children, but is more in the nature of an aide-memoire of things already known than a book of detailed instructions. Many of the activities are reminiscent of kindergarten occupations, although they are not presented as such. ********** Analysis Unnamed - The Nurse's Cap ********** Unnamed - The Newspaper Hat ********** Bebe Cloche - Don Simon ********** Anneaux Elastiques - How to Climb Through a Playing Card ********** Cocotte ********** Canard Plie - The Duck ********** Unnamed - The Chinese Junk ********** Examples of Ausschneiden und Aufkleben
