'Friedrich
Froebel's Gesammelte padogogische schriften' (Friedrich
Froebel's Collected Educational Writings) edited by
Wichard Lange was published in two parts in 1861. The two parts were: 'Frobel's Leben und erstem Streben. Autobiographie und kleinere Schriften' (Froebel's life and first striving. Autobiography and smaller writings) 'Die Padagogik des Kindergartens' (The Pedagogy of the Kindergarten) ********** These works were subsequently translated into English and I have relied on these translations for evidence of what the original books contained. 'Friedrich Froebel's Pedagogics of the Kindergarten' being a translation by Josephine Jarvis of Wichard Lange's 'Die Padagogik des Kindergartens' published by D Appleton and Company, New York in 1895. No references to paper folding were found in this translation. 'Education by Development: The Second Part of the Pedagogics of the Kindergarten', translated by Josephine Jarvis, was published by D Appleton and Company in New York in 1899. Contains a chapter entitled 'Employment of Children - Guide to Paperfolding - A Fragment' which sets out a way to fold and cut a square from an irregular piece of paper and explains how to then fold the square in a few basic ways. It does not, however, contain any reference to any particular paperfolding designs. This chapter can be found on pages 88-97 of the book at https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=uc2.ark:/13960/t8bg2md5x&view=1up&seq=9 'Third and Last Volume of Freidrich Froebel's Pedagogics' translated by Josephine Jarvis, was published by D Appleton and Company in New York in 1904. No references to paper folding were found in this translation. ********** |
