'Ehon masukagami' (Picture Book: A Bright, Clear Mirror) by Nishikawa Sukenobu was published in 1748. It contains several prints which feature paperfolds. A full copy of the work can be accessed online here. ********** The subject of this print is the Hina Doll Festival. The ladies (or perhaps children) on the left are folding paper. One holds up a Paper Crane. There are also a completed Komoso and Paper Boat (the version with three sails) lying on the floor.
********** This print shows a wedding ceremony. It includes two sake kettles decorated with Ocho and Mecho.
********** The woman on the right is wearing a Paper Crane patterned kimono. On a table beside her lies a noshi.
