Conjuring for Amateurs by Ellis Stanyon, 1897

'Conjuring for Amateurs' by Ellis Stanyon was published by L Upcott Gill in London in 1897. It contains a chapter on Paper Folding (ie Troublewit) explaining 22 figures.

The penultimate paragraph of this chapter mentions that Paper-Folding is sometimes called 'Le Papier de Pere Mathieu' (see below)

The advertisement shows that at this date Ellis Stanyon was was not only performing his paper folding act but also making and selling pre-folded Troublewit sheets. It also references an article about him and his paperfolding act in the November 1895 issue of 'The Sporting Life'.

A full copy of the first edition of the work can be accessed online here.
