Collage by Phillipe Bizot, 1773 | |||||||
Photographs of this collage were found by Michel Grand on auction sites in 2010 and 2013. The central cross is made from Paper Rosettes, which appear to be interlinked. The other elements appear to have been cut out of printed paper. The name Phillipe Bizot appears at the foot of the collage, the first name on the left and the surname on the right. The date is split in a similar way. The 17 on the left is clear, as is the third digit, another 7, on the right. The fourth digit is difficult to read but appears to me to be a 3. I have therefore used the date of 1773 for this record. I have assumed that Phillipe Bizot was the maker, though I suppose it is also possible that the collage was made as a tribute to him, possibly after his death. I have not been able to locate any information about the particular Phillipe Bizot in question. The dimensions of the collage (including the frame it was sold in) are 40cm x 50cm. By my count the cross is 37 rosettes tall, which means that each individual rosette is tiny, probably between 1cm and 1.5cm square. ********** ********** ********** ********** |
