China: das Land und seine Bewohner by Friedrich Gerstäcker, 1848

'China: das Land und seine Bewohner by Friedrich Gerstäcker was published in Leipzig in 1848. It contains reference to 'these little paper boats we fold for children'. The description matches the appearance of the Paper Boat. Information from, and translation by, Edwin Corrie.

"He wore a winter cap made of dark brown satin, which sat snugly on his head and had a black velvet rim bent sharply upwards all round, but much higher at the front and back than at the sides. In fact the cap looked a lot like those little paper boats that we fold for children.”
