Squarism is my term for the idea that squares should be preferred as the starting shape for origami designs. ********** 1964 Vol 4: Issue 4 of 'The Origamian' for Winter 1964 contains a profile of James M Sakoda written by Alice Gray, much of which is directly quoted from one of his letters, which contains a reference to his preference for folding from squares:
********** 1968 In his 'Basic Paper Folding', which was published by Jay Marshall in Chicago.in 1968, Samuel Randlett included ways of making a pentagon and a hexagon with a single cut. (which shows that starting from these shapes was still considered a standard part of recreational paperfolding at that time). ********** |
