Mechanemata oder der Tausendkünstler by Dr Heinrich Rockstroh, 1831

'Mechanemata oder der Tausendkünstler' by Dr Heinrich Rockstroh was published in 1831.

A full copy of the work on which this page is based can be accessed here. This version was published in Wesel by Jul. Bagel and Comp (see title page below in Selected Pages). It is undated but said to be from 1831. There is a second version published in Berlin by C Fr Amelang, also undated, but also said to be from 1831 (see image below). I have not seen a full copy of this second version but presume the contents are identical to the first. I do not know why two different versions exist.

A more detailed analysis of the letter closures can be found in Edwin Corrie's blog - Artful letter closures from 1831.

This effect occurs in two versions, from paper and then from a playing card. Both versions are effectively the same.
