Friedrich Froebel's Gesammelte Padogogische Schriften edited by Wichard Lange, 1862

'Friedrich Froebel's Gesammelte padogogische schriften' (Friedrich Froebel's Collected Educational Writings) edited by Wichard Lange was published in two parts in 1862.

Part One was published as 'Frobel's Leben und erstem Streben. Autobiographie und kleinere Schriften' (Froebel's life and first striving. Autobiography and smaller writings). As far as I know there is no mention of paperfolding in Part One.

Part Two was published as 'Die Padagogik des Kindergartens'. It contains a fragment about paperfolding titled 'Anleitung zum Papierfalten' (which see).

A full copy of Part Two of this work can be accessed online here.

Part One was translated into English by Josephine Jarvis and published as 'Friedrich Froebel's Pedagogics of the Kindergarten' by D Appleton and Company, New York in 1895.

Part Two was translated into English by Josephine Jarvis as 'Education by Development: The Second Part of the Pedagogics of the Kindergarten',and published by D Appleton and Company in New York in 1899.

Analysis

Apart from the fragment 'Anleitung zum Papierfalten' (which see), Part Two also contains some brief mentions of paperfolding in Chapter XXX: The date of the original publication of the material in Chapter XXX is unknown, but it must be prior to 1852 when Froebel died.

Inter alia Froebell says, roughly translated, 'The result of this activity ... can be used to make and embellish a wide variety of objects; wallets, writing and needlepoint, pens, envelopes, napkin rings etc'.
