This was the exhibition for which the Eiffel Tower was built. It included a a display of origami designs folded by Japanese schoolchildren. These almost certainly formed part of the exhibition about Japanese public education which would have been displayed in the main Japanese pavilion. The main source of information about the contents of this display comes from an article by Dr Z (real name unknown) in La Nature Issue 852 of 25th September 1889. There is also mention of the display in an article by Alber in Mon Journal of 21st October 1899, which says: 'At the 1889 Exposition, Japan has covered a complete wall with the work of school children', although, unfortunately, no further details of the designs that were included in this display are given. ********** |
