El Plegado de Papel, c1936

'El Plegado de Papel: 4th Cuaderno de Trabajos Manuales' was published anonymously by J Ortiz in Madrid. The work is undated. The publisher advertised it as 'The most complete and methodical work published in Spain on this subject'.

Three volumes from the same publisher titled 'Trabajos manuales' are listed in an advert on the final page of the work (see foot of page). These volumes explain how to make designs based on fruits and vegetables not how to fold paper, but it is possible that the publisher considered 'El Plegado de Papel' to be the fourth volume in the same series.

The May 1934 Gaceta de Madrid (see below) contains three entries for Sr Ortiz, one of which is 'Modelos de trabajos manuales'. This is probably a reference to the first 'Trabajos manuales' book. If we allow for the time necessary to publish the other two then it is, perhaps, unlikely that 'El Plegado de Papel' was published later in 1934. It was more probably published in 1935 or 1936 (although, of course, without hard evidence any date is guesswork). Because I try to assign sources to the last possible (or in this case last likely) date, I have temporarily assigned it to 1936, pending further information becoming available.

The information on this page was kindly contributed by Juan Gimeno.

A full copy of the work is included at the foot of this page.
