Advert for The 1st International Paper Airplane Competition in The New York Times, 12th December 1966 | |||||||
This is the advert that launched The 1st International Paper Airplane Competition. It features three paper planes: The Paper Dart (here called 'the classic paper plane) A version of the Paper Dart with the keel inverted to form a tail, which is said to have been 'First developed among paper airplane designers in the 1930's' (sic). The text says 'Note hooked nose' but the design does not possess this feature. A third plane with a blunt nose and upturned side stabilisers. The advert refers to Leonardo da Vinci as 'the Patron Saint of paper airplanes'. The winners of each of four categories: duration aloft: distance flown: acrobatics: Origami will receive a 'Leonardo' trophy, silver for amateurs and titanium for air travel professionals. ********** ********** |
